AquaMarine Diving - Bali‘s June 2021: Dive Against Debris

updates

Some 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the sea every year, and a large amount of which is fishing nets and sometimes ending up on our dinner plates. Estimated 230 million tonnes of plastics in the oceans. If trends continue, the oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

PADI AWARE Foundation records that 14.11% of plastic fishing lines are in the ocean from the total recorded marine debris until 2019.

At dive sites around the Padangbai area, it will not be difficult to find a fishing line or fishing net. The activities carried out by the local community are still far from being sustain and environmental friendly. From Dive Agains Debris yesterday, we collected as much as 4.6kgs fishing line and fishing net.
